On January 14, 2022, a few months after the first season wrapped up, a second season for the series was confirmed. The official announcement came from the studio on February 9, 2023, as a new season called “Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki 2nd Stage”, featuring 13 episodes, had begun production. The new season is expected to be aired around mid-January, 2024.

What is the Series all about?

Fumiya Tomozaki is an ace gamer by the name of ‘Nanashi’, ranking no.1 on leaderboards for the game Attack Families. However, in real life, he is a reclusive high-schooler, with practically no social life and treats real life as a ‘trash game’.

One day he comes across a ‘No Name’ player, who beats all scores to come at No.2 on the leaderboards. Curious to know this person, he meets them only to find out it’s his popular classmate, Aoi Hinami. Surprised that ‘Nanashi’ is Tomozaki, Hinami decides to help him come out of his shell and make him take real life seriously.

What happened in Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki season 1?

Season 1 begins with an introduction to our main character, Tomozaki. Socially awkward and pessimistic by nature, he is an excellent gamer with disdain for real life and doesn’t put effort into keeping up appearances or bothers having any social life.

He comes across a player who manages to score the second position on the leaderboards but is unable to beat him. Much to both of their surprise, they discover this anonymous player is Aoi Hinami, his all-rounder and perfect classmate who excels at everything she does. 

Hinami, shocked by this identity reveal and upset at Tomozaki’s lack of and disdain for social interactions, decides to help him overcome his social anxiety and help him gain new friends. The first season ends with Tomozaki receiving his next task getting a part-time job, and he ends up working at a karaoke parlor as a waiter.

The last volume of the light novel series was released on May 18, 2023. The eleventh edition concluded the story. Overall 13 volumes have been published by Gagaga Bunko. The first volume was published on May 18, 2016.

Shuuji Nakamura – A domineering personality, he is considered the alpha and de facto leader of his group. Though competitive and petty, he can be a reasonable and considerate person. He is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto.

Takahiro Mizusawa – Takahiro is Tomozaki’s friend and the older brother of Yuzu. He is composed and mature, and he occasionally gives Tomozaki advice, particularly concerning the dynamics of the classroom and social life. Nobunaga Shimazaki voices him.
