What Happened in the Previous Seasons of Bungo Stray Dogs?
Season 1 acts as an introductory season. It introduces us to the main characters and their abilities. It also introduces us to two of the main organizations, the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia. The season shows us the conflict between the two organizations as the Port Mafia tries to capture Atsushi. Season 1 ends with the arrival of a foreign supernatural organization, The Guild.
Season 2 begins with a flashback of Dazai’s days in the Port Mafia. When the Season returns to the present time, a three-way war erupts between the organizations. Fitzerald tries to destroy the city. This forces the Agency and Port Mafia to work together.
Atsushi and Akutagawa succeed in defeating Fitzerald. Finally, with the help of Kyouka, they manage to stop the crashing fortress and save the city.
Season 3 also begins with a flashback. It shows us Nakahara Chuuya’s past and how he ended up joining the Port Mafia. Louisa and Fitzerald meet again and establish a New Guild.
The New Guild takes action as they poison the leaders of the Agency and Port Mafia. It is revealed that the only way to survive this poison is by killing the other leader. This leads to another conflict between the two organizations. This conflict is eventually interrupted by Natsume Soseki. The season ends with the organizations joining forces to catch Fyodor. After they succeed, it is revealed that Atsushi and Akutagawa made an agreement.
Season 4 starts with a flashback between Fukuzawa and Ranpo. In the present time, the Armed Detective Agency is framed as terrorists and the Hunting Dogs are sent to pursue them. The agency is aided by the Port Mafia in dealing with the military police. In a series of events, it is revealed that Tachihara is the fifth Hunting Dog who had been working undercover in the Port Mafia.
Pursuing the agency, the Hunting Dogs reach the Sky Casino and a series of battles take place. The season ends as Atsushi continues to look for the page’s location. Tachihara also realizes that the agency is not at fault and they’ve been pursuing the wrong culprits.
Season 5 begins with Atsushi figuring out the page’s location. It is being held by Kamui and they need to defeat him in order to save the agency. Ranpo convinces Fukuchi to help the agency and Fukuchi eventually agrees. But later Ranpo realises that Fukuchi is Kamui.
Atsushi ends up battling Fukuchi. Akutagawa comes to Atsushi’s aid. But even with their combined forces, they are unable to defeat Fukuchi. Fukuchi then brings out the last member of the Decay of the Angel, Bram Stoker. A vampire outbreak begins to spread. The UN decided to release One Order to suppress the outbreak. In the final episode, Aya saves Bram which allows him to stop the vampire outbreak. After their fight, Fukuchi and Fukuzawa have a talk which reveals Fukuchi’s true intentions and nature. Lastly, he asks Fukuzawa to kill him and become the commander of the Army of Mankind as it is the only way to save the agency.
Fukuza is unwilling to kill Fukuchi. Teruko kills Fukuchi instead. As the episode comes to an end, Ranpo recalls Fukuchi’s importance in Fukuzawa’s life. The season ends with an additional scene where Atsushi and Akutagawa are seen fighting an unknown enemy.
Bungo Stray Dogs Manga
The Bungo Stray Dogs anime series is based on the ongoing monthly manga series written by Asagiri Kafka. He started writing the series in December 2012. Currently, the series has a total of 23 volumes consisting of 110 chapters.
Season 1 covers Chapters 1 to 16. Season 2 covers Chapters 17 to 37. Season 3 covers Chapters 38 to 53. Season 4 covers Chapters 54 to 77. The latest Season 5 ends in Chapter 110 called “In The Small Room, Part 6”.
