The Detective is Already Dead is an underrated gem that delivers its story in a unique way. The series introduces us to a high school boy named Kimihiko Kimizuka who “attracts” trouble.

The anime starts on a plane, where our MC meets a beautiful girl named Siesta, who claims to be a great detective. The flight gets hijacked but Siesta after an intense fight with the hijackers and some help from Kimihiko manages to save the day.

Siesta asks Kimihiko to be her assistant and the pair goes on to many adventures all around the world. However, their partnership doesn’t last long as just three years later Siesta Met an abrupt end.

Kimihiko is now back in school but he seems to have lost his purpose in life. However, after a faithful encounter with his classmate, things start to change.

The second season of The Detective is Already Dead was officially confirmed in July 2022 followed by a small teaser. While it has been over a year since this announcement, the animating studio is also relatively small, owing to the large gap.

As of writing this article, there is no confirmation of a release date just yet, but most estimates predict The Detective is Already Dead Season 2 to be released by the middle or end of 2024.

While the first few episodes of the anime stunned fans with its clever camera movements and awe-inspiring animation, many felt that there was a decline in quality as the series continued which is reflected in the show’s user ratings.

This left many fans fearful of the potential cancellation of this anime which thankfully isn’t the case.

Now, there has been no word properly confirming the animation studio, either, we believe that Studio ENGI, which animated the first season, will continue with the second season.

With our main characters investigating the many questions behind Siesta’s death, they will unveil shocking truths while also having to face off against enemies who threaten the safety of the world.

We will also have sweet flashbacks and scenes between Kimihiko and Siesta, which is what a majority of fans also watch the series for.

With the amount of light novel material that is left to cover, technically we can expect many more seasons from “The Detective is Already Dead”, depending on its success.

Detective is Already Dead Season 2 Trailer

On 24 July 2022, the official KADOKAWAanime channel posted a PV or promotional video(above) confirming the Detective is Already Dead Season 2 (video.

The teaser trailer kicks off Siesta briefly narrating her first encounter with Kimihiko on the plane 1000 meters above the ground. Her words express her affection towards Kimihiko.

We also see all of our favorite characters on the screen each putting a few words and text a few phrases from the first season.

Although we did not get anything on what is to come next from the Trailer, towards the end of it, we hear Siesta’s voice as she says “I won’t forget it”, “I won’t let anyone take it away” and most importantly “I like tales with happy endings”.

Many fans didn’t like how season 1 ended with Siesta and Kimihiko bidding farewell for the final time as Siesta takes control of Nagisa’s body and the detective says that she won’t do it again.

The line could very well mean that maybe this indeed is not their final meeting.

The Detective is Already Dead is a series that you will either love a lot or just find uninteresting. While the first episode might make it seem like it is heavy on action, the anime also features a lot of other genres that would take viewers by surprise.

By giving it the classic 3-episode test where you try at least 3 episodes of a series before deciding whether to continue, audiences will be able to tell whether they would be gripped by the series or not.

At the same time, for those who do enjoy it, the anime has an amazing cast of characters and a story that properly balances mystery, comedy, and romance.
