What is the Series The Dangers in My Heart About?

The story follows Kyotaro Ichikawa, a middle-school student who happens to be a social outcast and loner. Aggrieved by his situation, he morbidly fantasizes about killing his classmates, especially the beautiful and popular, Anna Yamada.

He often sits in the library, reading books on murder and human anatomy. One day he runs into Yamada there, and a conversation between them leads him to realize she is not what he assumed her to be. An uncanny friendship is struck up between the two, which spirals soon after into love.

The series follows their relationship as they both grow closer, grow as individuals, and overcome their insecurities. 

What Happened in The Dangers in My Heart Season 1?

Season 1 aired from April 2, 2023 to June 18, 2023. Kyotaro comes across Anna needing help and for some bizarre reason helps her. He continues to help her and starts getting attracted to her. He notices a lot of things about her, which changes his perception of her, falling in love with her. He and Anna soon become friends after a series of incidents where he ends up saving her.

The season ends with Kyotaro accidentally confessing to Moeka that he loves Anna and realizing it later. Anna later visits his house, where she subtly makes a promise that he can visit her house next time. Kyotaro decides to tell her his feelings soon and they hug on the first day back to school.

The Dangers in My Heart Manga

As of March 2023, eight volumes have been published by the author, Norio Sakurai who illustrates them too. The manga first appeared in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion magazine on March 8, 2018. Another volume is set to release in November 2023.

Chihiro Kobayashi – Anna’s childhood best friend whom she refers to as Chii. She belongs to the basketball team. She doesn’t even realize that she was formerly Haruya’s bait to get closer to Anna until Moeko and Serina bring it to her attention. She is blind to the relationships of those around her. She is voiced by Ayaka Asai.

Moeko Sekine – She is academically capable, having once finished fifth in her class. During the work-study field trip, she professes to be a manga enthusiast but only mentions more well-known series. Moeko is also a social butterfly, frequently rescuing Anna and Kyotaro from uncomfortable circumstances. However, because of her proximity to Kyotaro, Moeko is a target of Anna’s jealousy. She is voiced by Megumi Han.

Serina Yoshida – Anna’s reserved but sharp-eyed pal. She enjoys dancing and hair styling, and she is a great admirer of delinquent manga like Crows and Worst. She holds a neutral impression of Kyotaro but considers him untrustworthy. She is voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki.
