What is Kimi ni Todoke series about

Kimi ni Todoke tells the story of Sawako Kuronuma, a shy high schooler who finds it difficult to socialize and express herself. Throughout the show, she makes new friends who help her grow. The show follows the ups and downs she faces in understanding the people around her. Especially Kazehaya, whom she seems to have special feelings for.

What happened in the previous seasons of Kimi ni Todoke?

Kimi ni Todoke anime Story So Far

The first season of Kimi ni Todoke starts by introducing Sawako. People are often scared of her because of her stiff smiles which look horrific to them. Chizuru, Ayane, Kazehaya, and Ryuu decide to sit next to Sawako in class. As time goes on, they become close friends. Soon after rumours spread about Sawako bad-mouthing her friends.

They initially don’t trust these rumors, but Sawako’s inability to express her true thoughts lays a cloud of doubt in them. But Sawako decides to act on her own and end these rumors. Her actions convey her true intentions and her friends show up to defend her and they go back to normal.

As Sawako and Kazehaya get closer, Kurumi appears and tries to create conflict between them. But she fails to do so and in the process is exposed by Ayane as the culprit for the rumours. As more people interact with Sawako they realise how kind and warmhearted she is. In the final episodes of the season, the group of friends decide to visit shrines on New Year’s Eve. But Chizuru and Ayane flee as they want Sawako and Kazehaya to spend time together. The season ends on a good note as Sawako and Kazehaya seem closer than ever.

Season 2 continues as everyone starts a new academic year. The class settings are changed, and Sawako no longer sits with her close friends. Though she is still close to Ayane and Chizuru, she starts to drift away from Kazehaya.

Kazehaya grows impatient and wants to express his feelings, but they both misunderstand each other. This misunderstanding leads both of them to assume that their feelings are one-sided. A series of public confrontations lead them to understand that maybe they’ve misunderstood each other. Sawako manages to express her feelings but to her surprise, Kazehaya feels the same.

About the Kimi ni Todoke Manga

Kimi ni Todoke Manga

The anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Shiina Karuho. The manga series started its serialization on December 13, 2005, in Bessatsu Margaret. It ended on November 13, 2017.

It has a total of 30 volumes consisting of 123 chapters. The manga series has sold over 36 million copies making it one of the highest selling shoujo manga.

The first season covered chapters 1 to 27. The second season adapted chapters 28 to 46. This leaves the show with 77 chapters that need to be adapted. It is unsure if the show will cover all of these chapters or where they’ll start season 3.

However, if they follow the manga chronologically, Season 3 will start with Chapter 47 called “Summer” and will start with the typical anime summer episodes where the characters will be seen finding ways to spend the summer vacation and also going to the beach.

What to expect from Kimi ni Todoke Season 3?

What to Expect from Kimi ni Todoke Season 3

With an abundance of chapters uncovered from the manga, Kimi ni Todoke Season 3 has a lot to cover. As stated earlier the new season is expected to start with about the summer vacation. We are still to meet Kazehaya and Ayane’s family too so potentially we can expect Sawakao to visit their houses.

Based on the manga, the season could also include a few episodes about a field trip and end with another Christmas episode as the second year of school ends.

77 chapters is a lot so it is very unlikely that the season can cover it all. So probably the season will end with Christmas episodes.

The manga series has also been adapted into a movie in 2010 and a live-action series in 2023.
