On September 26, 2023, Zom 100’s official account confirmed on Twitter that the release of Episodes 10-12 will be delayed.

Finally three months later, on December 25, 2023, the remaining three episodes were released! The season’s ending suggested that the show has more to offer! But considering the previous delays, the studio might take a while to fully prepare itself before another release.

Since there is an ample amount of source material to adapt, we can expect an announcement anytime next year and potentially a release in 2025!

What is Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead about?

Tendou Akira, trapped in the corporate world finds himself hating his life. But suddenly he finds freedom as the world faces a zombie apocalypse. Accepting the fact that he might become a zombie eventually, he makes a list of things he wants to do before that. 

What has happened in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead so far?

The show begins with a flashback of Akira’s life. He was initially enthusiastic about working but after being exploited by a production company, he began to hate it. The zombie outbreak finally frees him from his job. Akira takes on the zombie apocalypse enthusiastically. He believes he would rather deal with zombies than go back to work.

The next day, he leaves the house as he runs out of beer. He meets a girl named Shizuka who criticizes him for being carefree and taking unnecessary risks. Unsure about what to do with his life now, he makes a list of 100 things he wants to do before he turns into a zombie. He realizes he wants to meet his parents and best friend Kenichirou more than anything.

He meets up with Kenichirou and inspires him to lead a similar life. They accept that eventually their lives will come to an end so they should live it to the fullest. Akira decides he wants to become a superhero, while Kenichirou decides to become a stand-up comedian. Later, they come across the same girl from earlier and Akira manages to save her. Eventually, they agree to travel together.

On their way to Akira’s hometown, their RV is damaged and Kenichirou is injured. Akira’s former boss, Kosugi, is the culprit. He offers to help them if they work for him for two days. Akira is forced to agree. Kosugi once again begins to exploit Akira. As a result, Akira’s trauma resurfaces and he feels helpless. 

Shizuka recalls her past which was similar to Akira’s current situation and she helps him stand up for himself. Akira finally leaves his trauma and Kosugi behind. As they resume their journey, they meet Beatrix.

They help Beatrix who wishes to eat sushi prepared by the last surviving sushi chef. On their way, they come across several zombies. But together they can overcome the crisis and they fulfill Beatrix’s long-awaited wish. Beatrix decides to join them on their journey.

They finally reach Akira’s hometown. They are relieved to find out that everyone is safe. They receive the village’s hospitality and Akira helps his father on the farm. It is hinted that Akira’s father doesn’t have much time left due to health issues.

A number of refugees are given shelter in this village but a small group tries to cause issues. The group is led by Higurashi who attended the same college as Akira and Kenichi. The group leads zombies into the village and also sabotages other protective measures.

The backstories of all the members are told. Since they are displeased with the way society treats them, they decide to destroy society in return.

Fortunately, with the help of the villagers, Akira and his friends stop this crisis. Once finding out his father’s illness is not fatal at all, Akira decides to save the world! He decides to continue traveling in search of a vaccine to stop the apocalypse.

In the final episode, Akira and his friends leave the village. Akira believes they should keep moving north like all adventurers! The season ends as they are headed towards Hokkaido!

About the Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Manga

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead anime series is based on the ongoing manga series by Aso Haro who has also created the manga series, Alice in Borderland. The manga series started running on October 19, 2018, in Monthly Sunday Gene-X. The manga has released a total of 15 volumes so far, consisting of 61 chapters.

Season 1 ended in Chapter 22 and marked the end of the “ Hometown of the Dead” arc. That still leaves more than half of the manga being unadapted. The manga series is updated with a new chapter every month. Chapter 62 is expected to be released around the third week of January.

The manga series has also been adapted into a live-action series by Netflix, which was released in August 2023.

What to expect from Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Season 2?

Though it’s not confirmed yet, we can still speculate what can be expected from Season 2 in terms of story.

Firstly, Akira’s list now has 86 things to do (including his friends’ goals) of which only 26 have been completed, so naturally we’ll see them work towards these goals! Season 2 will most probably begin in Hokkaido!

According to MyAnimeList, the anime is part of a production deal between VIZ Media, Shogakukan, and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions. It has been animated by BUG FILMS who are fairly new and this is the first show they’re primarily working on.

There were many delays throughout the release of Zom 100 Season 1, and the final 3 episodes were delayed for three months.

There is no information about a studio change moving forward, the delays might feel like enough reason to predict a studio change.
